FING! set to wildly delight with global debut at Sundance Film Festival
The Australian/UK fantasy feature co-production FING! has been selected for official inclusion in the 2026 Sundance Film Festival.
Stage23 were one of the leading VFX vendors for the feature film, which is an adaptation of the children’s book written by actor David Walliams. Walliams and Kevin Cecil co-wrote the screenplay with Australian director Jeffrey Walker taking the helm.
The film is an official Australian/UK co-production driven by London-based King Bert Productions and Queensland’s Story Bridge Films and supported by AGC Studios as co-financier and worldwide sales and distribution agent. Sky UK and Stan also developed the project. Principal filming commenced in February at Screen Queensland Studios in Brisbane, Australia with support from Screen Queensland’s Production Attraction Strategy.
The internationally collaborative project allowed Stage23 to work with its VFX teams across offices in London and Sydney taking full advantage of the co-production opportunities and incentives available.
FING! has also been commissioned by Australian streamer Stan as a Stan Original Film. In 2026 FING! will be released theatrically in Australia and New Zealand via Transmission Films , then exclusively on Stan, as a Stan Original Film.
The film stars Taika Waititi, Mia Wasikowska, David Walliams, Richard Roxburgh, Penelope Wilton, Blake Harrison and Robyn Nevin.
The story peaks into the lives of librarians Mr. and Mrs. Meek, (Harrison and Wasikowska) who strive to keep their petulant daughter, Myrtle, happy. When Myrtle declares she wants a Fing, her parents have no choice but to track one down, taking them to the furthest and darkest corners of the jungle. Fing turns out to be as much as a destructive monster as Myrtle, who in turn, must battle it out with the evil animal park owner, The Viscount (Waititi), who is determined to own this rarest of creatures.

The 2026 Sundance Film Festival takes place from January 22 to February 1 in Park City, Utah.
