Kangaroo leaps into the Uk top 12 spot on opening weekend in UK
StudioCanal’s Australian feature Kangaroo has opened in the UK market, reaching the top
12 in its opening weekend.
The family centric film is the debut local production from StudioCanal’s Cultivator Films and
produced in partnership with Bunya Productions and Brindle Films. Stage23 worked as the
official VFX partner on Kangaroo with Stage23 co-founder Jonathan Hairman serving as
VFX Supervisor.
The UK launch to over 600 screen nationwide on January 30 was complemented by
launches in the Latvian and Lithuanian markets with CIS and Ukraine following in February,
the Netherlands in March and France and Belgium in European Summer.
StudioCanal and Northern Territory Tourism brought a little bit of the outback to Leicester
Square in London and the Odean Point Square in Dublin in pre-launch screenings to over
500 media, celebrities, influencers at both events, with special guests the Acting High
Commissioner of Australia ( in London) and the Australian Ambassador to Ireland
introducing the film.
Meanwhile in Australia this week the film is up for nomination across eight award at the
upcoming AACTA Awards.
The nominations include: Best Film David Jowsey, Greer Simpkin, Angela Littlejohn, Rachel
Clements, Trisha Morton-Thomas, Cultivator Films Australia; Best Direction in Film for Kate
Woods; Best Lead Actress in Film for newcomer Lily Whiteley; Best Lead Actor in Film for
Ryan Corr; Best Supporting Actress for both Deborah Mailman and Brooke Satchwell; Best
Casting for Anousha Zarkesh and Best Soundtrack for Jemma Burns.
The AACTA awards will be held on February 4 & 6 on the Gold Coast as part of the week
